As the winter storm approaches, hurling at you, Be the Sun shining on leafless souls, despite it all With time passing by because you never know when, When a bud might pull open for growth to recur With enough determination and warmth to conquer Conquer those gloomy storms no one thought of fighting off For you never know when, when the wind might b r e e z e a c r o s s But no one seems to be having the energy to change things no seems to be having issues with Burn a little and you may find out what you can do, The buds that you can awaken to blossom flowers But all we do is hide inside in our covers; Because we have forgotten what history has faced When Fredrick Douglass had the courage to escape I wonder what life would have looked like without them; With no thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen amendments; With invisible chains being visible on days When Susan B Anthony marched across the country; when everything was against her and her motive, Her will to fight against laws brought change for us today. And you ask me, what’s the use of fighting for change: You fight for a change that will create a better place. Revolutionaries shone on those leafless trees, Even with no leaves to absorb their misery, With no hopes for change and growth within them to occur Bear a little pain because you never know when, When you might bring a change you never knew was needed; A change through rules or breaking them to create new ones As you never know when time might favor your cause, Bringing spring into your calendars after it all Fumes of flowers--roses, lilies, and sunflowers While you shine your light on those leafless-- yet alive trees, With leaves e m e r g i n g and r a d i a t i n g towards your goal Beautifying the scenery created by you; Persist harder and shine brighter and tear deeper, For you never know when the light might shine across
