Obstacles of Politics In politics, there are many disputes about which side is right or better, there's nothing much anyone can do about it. It’s inevitable. In the coming time, the world is going to be left to our generation and it's up to us to help continue to keep our world healthy and safe. There will be times where people will get into arguments on what to do and their own views, but my peers and I can avoid that. By being open minded and open to hear what others say, it can allow us to make decisions to help create a better place. We all need to be able to accept that others will have different opinions that aren’t your own and it's okay. We should be able to have discussions that will move us forward and not backward. By keeping an open mind and listening to other opinions, you're doing just that. As we’ve seen on the news and how aggressive people can get about this topic and the consequences. We have to steer away from that kind of action. People can have different opinions on politics but still have a relationship together. My grandma and grandpa have opposite political views but have been married for 45 years. My family mainly have the same political views except for my grandpa. Whenever we are all together, at some point politics will get involved and there will be a full blown disagreement between my family and my grandpa. We always listen to what he wants to say about whatever, but he never tries to hear our side. He listens to respond and doesn’t listen to understand. It gets very frustrating at times because you wonder why he sees it differently from his whole family. At one point, my sister, dad, grandpa, and I were eating out and we were still wearing our masks. He is one of the people who believes covid was a hoax, so he was getting on us and how we are bad for wearing masks when it wasn’t needed. I love him, but it really annoys me when he tries to make my sister and I feel bad for just wearing a mask, but it goes deeper than just that. Having a solution to political polarization would be difficult to say because it seems that there are more vocal minorities from each end of the political party spectrum, both conservative and liberal. It also seems that the more centrist voices in politics no longer make headlines in the media. Although I personally believe there are more people in the ‘political middle’ we don’t hear those messages in the mass media. What seems to get more media attention in “both news media and social media” are the ones that get the most views which tend to be the most politically polarizing. If somehow more bipartisan news came out in the media, then the public may see a positive difference, but we have not seen that in the recent past. We can be hopeful because we are the next generation and can be more open minded to others views and not simply attack peers or strangers due to different beliefs and thoughts. Becoming friends or just even trying to get to know someone that doesn’t have the same views, opinions, or just anything in common with you is hard. It may drive you guys apart, but it can also turn into a strength. Having those differences can also lead you to learning something new. This can be applied anywhere, politics, friends, sports, etc. There is a point where you meet in the middle and come together. Putting aside our differences can help bring unity. Allowing ourselves to be open minded, hear others out on their opinions, finding a middle ground, will help bring unity between people, our community and our world.
